On the Road Again
In September, we traveled to Atlanta for the Black Maternal Health Conference with members of the EMBRACe Village, CORE and the WIC team from Piedmont Health Services.
One village member who came was Nicole Hanner, the Maternal Health Coordinator at the Chatham County Public Health Department. She shared this reflection:
“The 2024 Black Maternal Health Conference in Atlanta was again an amazing experience for me as a Registered nurse in a rural community working with women of color throughout their maternal journey. The conference always exceeds my expectations from networking with colleagues, meeting new members of the healthcare system from all around the country, and sharing information on how to better serve women of color during this pivotal point in their lives. I’m so thankful to EMBRACe and the Chatham County Public Health Department for allowing me the opportunity to attend this amazing conference and bring back to my community ideas, and new innovative ways of serving Black women with a goal of closing the racial gap in maternal care and shared decision making. Everyone deserves a happy, healthy birth experience with knowledgeable care teams..”
